The picnic area is a wide open grassed area. Dotten around the area are picnic tables and benches. On the tables are the remains of meals - half eaten sandwiches, drink bottles and cans, litter and so on. There are some bushes and waste bins near by.<p>

You enter the lion's enclosure and as you step inside, the gate automatically shuts behind you. This is a large area surrounded by high fences and containing bushes and trees. Fortunately, you can't see any lions around, so they must be inside their night quarters - an adjacent building.<p>

Passing through double doors, you enter a large building. It is hot and steamy inside and you start to sweat in the heat. A large sign says "Tropical House." Looking around, you see crowds of people peering into glass-fronted displays where there are snakes. lizards, turtles, crocodiles and tuataras.<p>

You enter the aquarium where the zoo keeps a variety of fish, such as the cichlids from Lake Victoria and Lake Barombi Mbo in Africa. It is very warm and very crowded. It seems to take ages to worth your way around the attraction. There is no way that the monkey could be here without anyone noticing.<p>

The cattle and buffalo paddocks streatch before you. Pushing past a group of people standing in front of them, you reach the entrance to the paddocks. The gate is locked, of course, but you have the key with you.<p>

You are in the zoo's Central Office, which is the control center for all the zoo operations. From here, you can get to any part of the zoo very quickly and easily. A person at the front desk is talking to one of your staff about lost property. There always seems to be someone that has mislaid something. Half your staff's time is spent looking for lost items.<p>

On entering the Orang Utan enclosure, the animals look at you inquisitvely, cocking their heads to one side. You wonder whether it is safe to stay here as a big male rises up on his legs and stretches out his arms.

Stepping inside the bat cave, you stand for a while until your eyes become adjusted to the darkness. There are no windows and the little light, so as to make the resident bats mode comfortable. You wonder whether these are vampire bats, but a sign nearby says "Fruit Bats (Pteropus rodricensis)".<p>

The chimpazee enclosure is surrounded by a small moat. The chimps don't like water and this keeps them from escaping.<p>

This part of he zoo is dedicated to exotic plants and all around are flower beds containing brightly coloured and very attractive blooms. A group of Japanese tourists are snapping away with their cameras.<p>

You arrive at the Monkey Islands, which consists of several small islands in the middle of a man-made lake. Surrounded by water, the monkees cannot escape, so it is a mystery how one actually managed this feat.<p>
